Frequently asked questions

FAQ's

How much do I use per acre?

  • For our Pasture product: In most instances 2L to 4L per acre. (5-10L/ha)

  • For our Horticulture product: In most instances 6L to 8L per acre. (15-20L/ha)

  • For our Cereals product: In most instances 2L to 4L per acre. (5-10L/ha)

When do I use the product?

Seek closer attention to product labels for more detailed information/requirements.

  • For our Pasture product: In Autumn after rainfall event or after rainfall and the soil is damp

  • For our Horticulture product: In general, at budburst and post-harvest via drip irrigation. Other application rates include at first drip irrigation and post-harvest via drip irrigation.

  • For our cereals product: Spray on soil surface at planting or prior to incorporation or 12 weeks after germination. When injecting, it is recommended that this product is not placed too close to the seed.

Why are the products primary production specific?

Different primary production types such as pasture, cereals and horticulture require different trace mineral types and amounts. If in doubt with which product to use or any doubts, please contact us for assistance.

What should I expect with using the product?

Improved wool strength, improved wool growth rates, more milk product (for example an underlying Zinc deficiency would cause a hidden loss of 20% in potential milk production). Deficiencies are in most instances not apparent, for example with sheep, one symptom of zinc deficiency is dry skin on the face at a frequency of 1 in 50 sheep… anyway the list can go on.

If you are finding that you are needing to buy stock licks throughout the seasons, then our products are for you.

How long do I have to wait for a response after applying the product?

With the pasture product a change in grass colour should occur within 48 hours if there is a minimum of a green pick. Sometimes the easiest place to look for product effectiveness is near fence lines or paddock corners where the spray finishes and untreated areas are in close proximity to each other.  As the product has a whole range of necessary trace minerals the clover response should be apparent in comparison to non-applied paddocks/areas.

What sort of spray equipment should I use?

If you have a spray rig (coarse nozzles) then you can use that, or you could purchase one suited to the size of your property or the area you will be spraying.  Or for the do-it-yourself person you can build a simple one using readily available 12-volt pump, a drum and a boomless sprayer that will allow you to spray approximately 8m wide strips mounted on a small trailer towed by an ATV or even a ride on mower.

What is your return policy?

Stock Roots is under no obligation to accept returns for stock damaged on your premises. Goods may be returned if the quality of the product or packaging is not to the agreed standard and replacement product will be issued. Credit will not be issued for partially used stock. Request for returns must be made within 7 days of receipt of goods accompanied with a photograph of the reason for return.

Are the ingredients environmentally friendly?

All of our ingredients are plant based (active ingredients) and mineral derived. We believe this is absolutely essential to maximise product effectiveness as the growing window (when it rains) is generally short. Fast acting (immediate bioavailability) is an essential requirement for any farming enterprise to maximise potentials from the seasons.

Why do the products have different colours?

The Pasture, Horticulture and Cropping products will always be different colours in comparison to each other as different mineral amounts/types are in their respective matrixes. This is to match different primary production nutrient requirements.

Sometimes the products will be slightly different in colour within two products that should be identical. This is normal and due to some minerals changing oxidation states (about 78 different oxidation states available – a different oxidation state can result in different colour combinations). This is not an inherent signalling of defect in terms of quality – It is a good sign and means it is not inert and is available for plants to use.

Can I spray the Stock Roots pasture products on newly planted soils?

Its best to apply Stock Roots pasture products on established pastures or on the soil surface before newly sown pasture germinate. For best results on newly germinated pastures wait until 12 weeks old.

The following are reasons why you should NOT use this product with pastures containing salvation jane and/or heliotrope.

The plant salvation jane and the herb heliotrope contain an alkaloid which interferes with livestock's ability to process normal copper levels. This botanical can cause fetlock joint issues and paralysis in ruminants, as well as lameness in horses. Our Stock Roots pasture products should not be applied to pastures with salvation jane and/or heliotrope as there is a potential to exacerbate the impacts these weeds have on livestock.

What are trace minerals in agriculture?

Trace minerals are naturally occurring substances that are essential for plant growth. Trace minerals are found in soil, water, and air.  They work as the spark plugs within plants for growth. Trace minerals act as catalysts to help a plant in photosynthesis, overall growth processes, nutrient transfer mechanisms, antioxidants, etc.

What is a chelator?

A chelator is used with the products to ensure the trace minerals have increased availability to the plants and microbes to utilise. It works by keeping the trace mineral in its active state through a chemical process. This allows them to be properly filtered by the plants, in which they assist with absorption of nutrients and minerals, as well as acting as an antioxidant. The chelator we utilise in all our products are of food grade material.

How should the cereals product be injected into the soil and where is the recommended location for injection?

It is recommended to inject the cereal product adjacent to the seed, rather than with the seed. However, it is important to avoid placing the product too close to the seed.

Can the Stock Roots Cereal product be used as a foliar spray?

Certainly! The Stock Roots Cereals product can indeed be used as a foliar spray. If you choose to apply it this way, it is recommended to do so at 12 weeks after germination. Please note that the maximum amount to be applied is 2.5 litres per hectare per 4 weeks.
